Chennai to Ooty is around 550 km and takes nine and a half to ten and a half hours, with the last hour being the climb through the Nilgiri hairpins rather than highway driving. We quote one all-inclusive fare — per-kilometre rate, driver bata, tolls, permits and the hill charges that apply above Mettupalayam — agreed before you travel. The route runs through Vellore, Salem, Erode and Coimbatore on good four-lane road, then turns up at Mettupalayam for the ascent past Coonoor. Because the climb is slow and the descent should not be rushed, an early departure from Chennai is what makes this a comfortable one-day journey instead of a night arrival. One-way drops to Ooty are common with travellers taking the train back down, and we price the leg rather than the round trip. Innova Crysta handles the gradient well with a family aboard; Urbania and Tempo Traveller are available for groups.
Chennai to Kodaikanal is about 525 km and takes nine to ten hours by cab, the last of which is the ghat climb from Batlagundu up into the Palani hills. Our quoted fare is all-inclusive: per-kilometre rate, driver allowance, tolls, permits and hill charges are stated before departure, not added at the top. The road runs south through Villupuram, Trichy and Dindigul on good highway before the turn for the hills. That final ascent is a series of tight bends and is genuinely slower than the map suggests, so leaving Chennai early is the difference between arriving in daylight and arriving in mist. Kodaikanal is also a common one-way drop for travellers continuing to Madurai or flying out from there, and we price a one-way as a one-way. Innova Crysta is the sensible choice for a family on this gradient; Urbania and Tempo Traveller carry larger groups.
Relaxing intercity travel from Hyderabad to Ooty with professional drivers.
Hyderabad to Kodaikanal is close to 1,000 km and takes seventeen to nineteen hours of driving, which makes it a two-day journey rather than a single-day run. We quote it all-inclusive — per-kilometre rate, driver bata, night halt allowance, tolls and the Telangana, Andhra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu permits the route crosses — so a four-state drive carries one agreed figure. The road runs through Kurnool and Anantapur, past Bangalore, then south through Salem and Dindigul before the climb into the Palani hills. On a distance like this the driver's rest is a safety matter and our pricing assumes a proper overnight halt rather than a continuous drive. Most customers break the journey near Bangalore or Salem. Because the vehicle finishes a long way from home, this is a route where a one-way drop is worth asking about — we occasionally have a car already returning north.

Hyderabad to Coorg is about 825 km and takes fourteen to sixteen hours, which makes it a two-day journey rather than a single-day drive. Our fare is all-inclusive — per-kilometre rate, driver bata, night halt allowance, tolls and the Telangana, Andhra and Karnataka permits — quoted as one figure before you travel. The route runs through Kurnool and Anantapur, past Bangalore, on to Mysore, then up from Kushalnagar into the hills. Most customers break the journey near Bangalore or Mysore, and our pricing assumes a proper overnight halt because a driver on this distance needs one. Coorg is a district rather than a single town, so naming the property matters to both the fare and the arrival time. Because the vehicle ends a long way from home, this is a route where a one-way drop is worth asking about. Innova Crysta suits families; Urbania and Tempo Traveller carry groups.

One-way drop cabs from Trivandrum to Bangalore, up the Kerala coast and over the Ghats via Salem. Popular with families flying into Trivandrum and returning north by road, and with corporate groups closing a South India tour. Often available at a keener fare when one of our vehicles is already returning to its Bangalore base.
Trivandrum to Chennai one-way drops along the southern spine through Nagercoil, Tirunelveli and Madurai. A long single-day drive or a comfortable two-day run with an overnight halt, and the natural return leg for anyone who came south from Chennai by road.
Trivandrum to Madurai cabs via Nagercoil and Tirunelveli on a fast four-lane corridor. The usual reposition for a vehicle finishing in Kerala, and a short enough run to pair with a Meenakshi Amman temple visit on arrival.
Trivandrum to Kochi cabs up the Kerala coast through Kollam and Alappuzha, with easy add-on stops at Varkala cliff or the Alleppey backwaters. A common airport-to-airport transfer and an easy way to break a longer northbound journey.
Trivandrum to Mysore one-way drops through Kochi and Kozhikode, then the Wayanad ghat and the Bandipur forest road. A scenic northbound run, and the leg our Mysore-based vehicles most often make on their way home from Kerala.
Rameswaram to Madurai cabs (also spelled Rameshwaram) back across the Pamban bridge and up the four-lane corridor through Ramanathapuram. The standard onward leg after a Ramanathaswamy darshan, and frequently available at a better fare when a vehicle is already heading back that way.
Rameswaram to Chennai one-way drops (Rameshwaram is the same place, both spellings are in common use) up the coast, with optional halts at Karaikudi, Thanjavur or Chidambaram on the way. A long drive best planned with a rested driver, and one of the legs our Chennai vehicles most often return on.
Kochi to Coimbatore cabs through the Palakkad gap on a fast four-lane crossing of the Western Ghats. A frequent business and airport transfer, and the usual way a vehicle finishing in Kerala re-enters Tamil Nadu.
Kochi to Mysore one-way drops via Thrissur and Kozhikode, climbing the Thamarassery ghat into Wayanad and on through the Bandipur corridor. Note the forest road closes overnight, so this run is planned to clear it in daylight.
Pondicherry to Chennai cabs up the East Coast Road, with easy stops at Mahabalipuram or the Chennai airport on the way in. Our shortest and most frequent return leg, and often the easiest one to book at short notice.
Chennai to Trivandrum by road runs the length of Tamil Nadu on the southern spine — through Villupuram and Trichy, past the Meenakshi temple city of Madurai, then Tirunelveli and the wind farms of the Aralvaimozhi gap before crossing into Kerala at Kaliyakkavilai. Most families break it at Madurai overnight rather than drive it in one 13-hour push, and many add Kanyakumari for sunrise on the way down since it costs barely an hour's detour. Booked as a one-way drop it suits anyone flying home out of Trivandrum airport.
Bangalore to Trivandrum leaves the Deccan plateau at Hosur and drops south through Salem and Dindigul before the road turns for Kerala. The alternative western line runs Salem to Coimbatore and over the Palakkad gap into Thrissur and Kochi, which is longer but gentler and better if you want to stop in Kerala on the way. Corporate groups usually take it as a two-day run with a Coimbatore or Madurai overnight; families closing a South India tour often fly out of Trivandrum and take it one-way.
Madurai to Trivandrum is the short leg of the deep-south corridor — four-lane most of the way through Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli, past the ridge-top wind farms around Aralvaimozhi, then over the border at Kaliyakkavilai. Pilgrim groups finishing at the Meenakshi temple often continue this way to Padmanabhaswamy in Trivandrum, and Kanyakumari sits close enough to the road to add without losing a day. At five hours it is comfortably a single morning's drive.
Kochi to Trivandrum is about 205 km along the Kerala coast and takes five to six hours, longer than the distance suggests because the coastal highway runs through continuous towns rather than open country. Our fare is all-inclusive — per-kilometre rate, driver bata and tolls quoted before you travel. The road passes Alappuzha, Kayamkulam, Kollam and Varkala, and the backwater stretch around Alappuzha is the usual place customers ask to break the journey. Airport-to-airport transfers between Kochi and Trivandrum are a common use of this route, and both ends are easy pickups. This is a genuine one-way corridor for us: our vehicles work the Kerala coast in both directions, so a one-way drop is priced as one-way rather than as a round trip in disguise. Sedans suit couples and business travellers; Innova Crysta suits families with luggage; Urbania and Tempo Traveller carry group and pilgrimage parties.
Mysore to Trivandrum is the scenic way south: out through Gundlupet and the Bandipur forest corridor, down the Wayanad ghat past Lakkidi into Malabar, then the long coastal run through Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kochi. The forest stretch closes to traffic overnight, so the drive is planned to clear Bandipur in daylight, which usually means an early start or a Wayanad or Kozhikode overnight. It is a full two days done comfortably, and by some way the most beautiful road on this list.
